11-12 November 2015 | Dubai, UAE
UNEP FI is co-organising, with the Ministry of Environment of the UAE and in association with the Central Bank of the UAE, the Insurance Authority, Securities and Commodities Authority and the Dubai Financial Services Authority, a CEO Roundtable of Financial Institutions and a workshop on Environmental & Social Risk for Banking Industry. These meetings follow the first National Roundtable held in May in Dubai which successfully raised awareness about the financing opportunities in green projects, a vision that is supported by the UAE Green Growth Strategy and Vision 2021. The High-Level CEO roundtable gathers CEOs, Board Members and Senior Managers of the various financial institutions to raise awareness about the concept of sustainable finance, its potential for widespread application and to encourage the sector to work together to realise a green, inclusive economy in the UAE. The meeting outlines the opportunities and challenges faced by the finance sector globally and locally and build the case for sustainable finance. It explores some best practice examples of how sustainable finance is adopted by financial institutions and financial regulators in different countries. It also explores green Islamic financing as an instrument to drive the financing of sustainable development. The second meeting, 12 November, takes the form of a workshop addressed for practitioners – from the Central Bank, and the banking industry sector – to provide information on how to introduce and implement sustainable finance within their respective organisations.
