1 December 2015 | Nairobi, Kenya
UNEP FI is to play a key role at the launch of the Sustainable Finance Initiative (SFI) Guiding Principles & E-Learning Platform in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will be hosted by the Kenya Bankers Association, and attended by the CEOs of the Banking Industry with the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr. Patrick Njoroge, as the honorary guest. The Kenya Bankers Association (KBA), as an umbrella body for the banking sector, launched the SFI to promote best practice in sustainable finance during a CEO roundtable in 2013, at which UNEP FI participated in facilitating the discussions. During a second CEO Roundtable on 31 March 2015, the KBA member banks CEOs formally adopted the SFI Guiding Principles and best practices. The industry-wide E-learning platform has been developed as a part of the SFI Capacity Building Programme which aims to support the embedding of the Principles. The E-learning platform will focus on providing bank employees with general information on sustainability practices within the sector and will link the industry to the available resources in sustainable finance, including that of UNEP FI.
