The “Climate Financing Day in Mexico”, which was organized by the Climate Finance Group for Latin America and the Caribbean (GFLAC), the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), and the Climate Initiative of Mexico, took place on September 18. The objective of the event was to facilitate a multi-actor dialogue to support the mobilization, allocation, access, management of resources in order to accelerate climate action and accomplish the commitment of The Paris Agreement.

UNEP FI joined the session “Strengthening the sustainability of the Financial System: Risks and opportunities of climate change.” The session was led by Giovanni Frisari (IDB) and featured panelist Didem Nisanci (TCFD Secretariat), who shared the vision, importance, and progress of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).  Other panelists who shared their vision and recommendations on the TCFD for Mexico were: Mr. Rafael del Villar  (Bank of Mexico), Alba Aguilar (the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores Group), Emilio Urquillas (Director of CAF for Mexico) and Alan Gómez (Banamex/the Association of Banks of Mexico). UNEP FI’s participation in the panel focused on sharing the experiences and lessons learned from the pilots implementing the TCFD recommendations.

UNEP FI members also participated in the event by sharing their experiences on different topics. Ursula Wilhelm, Investors Relations Director for Banorte, was present at the session “Escalating the participation of the private sector to accelerate climate action”. Jorge Rey (Sustainability Director from CI Bank) participated in the session “Mobilizing finance to accelerate the energy transition”. Similarly, Jacinto Buenfil (UN Environment) and Santiago Lorenzo (WWF), participated in the session “Mobilizing financing for the conservation of nature and adaptation to climate change”.

El día 18 de septiembre en la ciudad de México se llevó a cabo el “Día del Financiamiento Climático en México“ organizado por el Grupo de Financiamiento Climático para Latinoamérica y el Caribe (GFLAC), en colaboración con la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) y la Iniciativa Climática de México. El objetivo del evento fue facilitar un diálogo multi-actor sobre la asignación, acceso, gestión y movilización de financiamiento para acelerar la acción climática y cumplir con lo estipulado en el Acuerdo de París.

UNEP FI participo en la sesión “Fortaleciendo la sustentabilidad del Sistema Financiero: Riesgos y oportunidades ante el cambio climático”. La sesión estaba liderada por Giovanni Frisari del BID y contó con la participación de Didem Nisanci del Secretariado del TCFD, quien compartió la visión, la importancia y los avances del trabajo del TCFD. También compartieron su visión y la relevancia de las recomendaciones del TCFD el Sr. Rafael del Villar, del Banco de México, Alba Aguilar del Grupo Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, Emilio Urquillas, director de CAF para México y Alan Gómez de Banamex y en representación de la Asociación de Bancos de México. La participación de UNEP FI en el panel se enfocó en compartir las experiencias y lecciones aprendidas de los pilotos de UNEP FI para implementar las recomendaciones del TCFD.

De igual forma, miembros de la red de UNEP FI participaron en el evento compartiendo sus experiencias en distintos temas. La directora de relaciones con inversionistas de Banorte, Úrsula Wilhelm, estuvo presente en la sesión “Escalando la participación del sector privado para acelerar la acción climática”. El director de sustentabilidad de CI Banco, Jorge Rey, participo en la sesión “Movilizando financiamiento para acelerar la transición energética”. Por su lado colegas de ONU Medio Ambiente, Jacinto Buenfil y WWF Santiago Lorenzo, participaron en la sesión “Movilizando financiamiento para la conservación de la naturaleza y la adaptación al cambio climático”.
