Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group & CSR
On April 1, 2005 the “Group CSR Committee” was established in order to strengthen CSR initiatives. Chaired by the director in charge of the Corporate Planning Department, the committee deliberates on matters of group-wide CSR activities, including social contribution and environmental preservation initiatives. It is their complex financial services which contributes to the healthy development of society. For this purpose, they recognize the importance of the company mission to serve as a crucial part of the public infrastructure and as well as their social responsibilities. On July 1, 2002 one of their primary subsidiaries, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (“SMBC”) became a signatory to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Statement by Financial Institutions on the Environment & Sustainable Development.
