The Korea Sustainability Investing Forum together with UNEP FI, Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), UN Global Compact Korea Network and BNP Paribas, co-hosted the launch of the ‘Investor Obligations and Duties in Six Asian Markets’ report in South Korea. In addition to South Korea, the report looks into the fiduciary duties in China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore and Korea. Georg Kell, founding Secretary General of UN Global Compact and Vice Chair of Arabesque Partners, and Lorenzo Saa, Director of Global Networks and Outreach for PRI, discussed ESG investment trends globally and their implications in Korea. The South Korean government has been prioritising the attraction of international investors in the country and to do so, the report recommends exploring national regulatory clarification to take account of ESG issues, adopting a Stewardship Code, and enhancing corporate disclosure. The report launch comes at an opportune time as the Korean National Assembly considers integrating environmental, social and governance issues into the National Finance Act.
