The International Conference “Investing in Sustainability” organized by the Russian Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs Vnesheconombank (VEB) has become an annual tradition for the finance community in Russia. The 2012 edition held in Moscow and organized in partnership with UNEP FI tackled the topic of bank – corporate client cooperation in the application of environmental and social criteria in lending operations. The event brought together around 150 national and international financial institutions and the corporate sector, government agencies, finance experts and academia, civil society organizations and mass media. Through panel discussions and case study sessions, this year’s event provided a better understanding of how Russian banks and real sector companies can engage to more effectively implement environmental and social risk analysis systems. The event was supported by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, UN Global Compact Network Russia, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the Russian Agency for Social Information.
