We are pleased to announce that in January of this year we welcomed two banks from El Salvador, Banco Hipotecario and Banco de Fomento Agropecuario (BFA), as members of UNEP FI and the network of financial institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean. Both banks signed the “UNEP Statement of Commitment on Sustainable Development”, as part of their pledge to understand and mitigate the social and environmental impacts of their financial activity.
President of BFA, Ana Liliana Vega, signed the declaration on the 30th of January, alongside Mr. Ángel Ibarra, Vice minister of Environment and Natural Resources and Mr. Matias Gallardo, Regional Coordinator of the UNEP FI for Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms Vega explained, “One of the reasons the bank has joined UNEP FI is to help in the adoption of better international standards and practices within the BFA group”.
At an event in San Salvador on the 31st of January, Ms. Nora Lopez, President of the Banco Hipotecario said, “By joining UNEP FI, Banco Hipotecario reinstates its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular those relating to climate action, ecosystems, health and wellbeing among others.”
We are thrilled to be able to welcome our new members to the Initiative and look forward to working with them in the years ahead, as we continue on our mission for sustainable finance.

Nos complace anunciar que en enero de este año dimos la bienvenida a dos bancos, Banco Hipotecario y Banco de Fomento Agropecuario (BFA), ambos de El Salvador, como nuevos miembros de UNEP FI y la red de instituciones financieras en América Latina y el Caribe. Ambos bancos firmaron la, “Declaración de compromiso del PNUMA sobre el desarrollo sostenible,” como parte de su compromiso de comprender y mitigar los impactos sociales y ambientales resultantes de las actividades que financian.
La presidenta de BFA, Ana Liliana, firmó la declaración el 30 de enero, ante la presencia del Sr. Ángel Ibarra, viceministro del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales y Sr. Matias Gallardo, Coordinador Regional de América Latina y el Caribe para UNEP FI. Sra. Vega explicó, “Una de las razones que el banco se ha unido a UNEP FI es para tener apoyo en la mejora de la adopción de estándares y prácticas internacionales dentro del grupo BFA.”
En un evento el 31 de enero en El Salvador, Sra. Nora López, Presidenta de Banco Hipotecario destacó, “Al unirse al UNEP FI, Banco Hipotecario restablece su compromiso de alcanzar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), sobre todo los que tienen vinculo al cambio climático, los ecosistemas, salud y bienestar entre otros.”
Damos la bienvenida a nuestros nuevos miembros a la Iniciativa y esperamos trabajar en conjunto con ellos durante los próximos años, en la promoción de las finanzas sostenibles.
