UNEP FI is set to play a key role at the 2015 ‘PRI in Person’ conference in London. This three day conference will bring together investors from across the world to discuss the full range of responsible investment issues and challenges. UNEP FI will provide key inputs to the following events:

Tuesday, 8th September

Side Event: London Stock Exchange Bell Ringing
Launch of the Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative model guidance on reporting ESG information to investors.

Side event: Launch of a new tool to incorporate water risk in corporate bonds valuation followed by a roundtable discussion on water-related financial risks.

4.30pm – 5.30pm Financial sector experts will discuss the growing importance of water risk to companies in high-use sectors and present a new Excel-based tool to evaluate corporate bond exposure to water stress. The tool has been developed and tested with seven banks and fund managers across Europe, the US and Latin America. The project was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Speakers will include representatives from the following organizations:

Thursday, 10th September

Main event: Tacking climate change through your real estate portfolio with energy efficiency and green building

8.30am – 09:15am An overview of the increasing regulatory drivers for investing in sustainable and energy efficient buildings will be followed by case studies and an interactive discussion of how investors can drive widespread industry adoption in this area. Moderator:

Session format:

  • Regulatory drivers: Tatiana will give an overview of the policy framework to this topic – EEFIG and G20 – (5-7 minutes)
  • Business case and implementation: the three speakers will discuss how this translates into practice through energy efficiency and green building initiatives with concrete examples and a discussion of impact on investment performance (20 minutes)
  • Asset owner engagement: the discussion will then turn to how asset owners can assess and monitor their property investment managers on these practices. With input from the audience – Tatiana will be calling on pre-nominated asset owners – the panellists will discuss how asset owners can factor ESG into their real estate portfolio; how can they effectively select and monitor managers on ESG criteria (with reference to IIGCC Guide and upcoming UNEP FI PWG work); and their own experience of interacting with their asset owner clients and how they communicate their ESG performance. (15-20 minutes)
